Strategic Goals 2007 - 2009

GOAL 1
Lead the Northwest region’s One-Stop career center system which:
a. Integrates and streamlines education, employment and training 00services for youth and adults;
b. Reinforces retraining and retention of the current workforce;
c. Provides valued services and dependable results for business and the 00workforce; and
d. Embeds the principles of continuous quality improvement.

GOAL 2
Champion the importance of lifelong learning for workers, and a systemic approach which:
a. Enables youth and new workers to identify opportunities and 00pathways for career success;
b. Ensures workers opportunities to upgrade their skills in response to 00changing workforce needs and challenges; and
c. Promotes competency-based education and training programs to 00ensure the workforce is appropriately skilled

GOAL 3
Strengthen the responsiveness of the workforce development system which:
a. Expands ways in which business needs are assessed and addressed;
b. Leverages resources and aligns strategies of key partners; and
c. Aligns services and products with the current requirements of 00business.

GOAL 4
Elevate support of workforce development issues, policies, and initiatives through inclusive community collaborations and broad partnerships.

GOAL 5
Strategically partner with regional economic development to align education, workforce, and economic development issues.

STRATEGIC GOALS 2000 - 2005

GOAL 1
Implement the requirements of the Workforce Investment Act by leading the design, implementation, and accountability of the WorkSource system which:

  • Integrates and streamlines education, employment and training services for youth and adults
  • Reinforces retraining and retention of the current workforce
  • Provides valued services and dependable results for business and the workforce and
  • Fosters community collaborations and partnerships

GOAL 2
Promote the importance of lifelong learning for workers, and a systemic approach which ensures:

  • All students (pre-K through post-secondary) have a quality education preparing them to succeed in the ever-changing world of work
  • Adults of all ages entering, already in the workforce, or in transition between jobs, are encouraged and have ample opportunities to upgrade their skills in response to changing workforce needs and challenges
  • Effective school-to-work connections are afforded to everyone

GOAL 3
Create and provide quality, competency-based workforce preparation services which use employer defined workforce skill standards and essential academic learning requirements so that all students and workers are able to acquire skills, knowledge, and abilities required to equip them as lifelong workforce learners.

GOAL 4
Ensure business customers are satisfied with results of the workforce preparation system and workers have the skills to be competitive in the global economy.

GOAL 5
Promote community collaborations and the awareness and support of workforce development issues, policies and initiatives. Ensure, through formal mechanisms, customers are connected to the appropriate community support services that address their life support needs.

GOAL 6:
Establish the WDC as an active and supportive economic development partner by delivering workforce strategies aligned to community economic development initiatives.

  • Promote a business climate to attract and retain businesses
  • Be visible in, and informative to, the business community
  • Promote and engage businesses for sustainability and growth
  • Expand training programs regionally to meet business needs
